Safer Internet Day (SID) is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year, Childnet creates educational resources to help schools, youth groups, police services, libraries, and others run fun and engaging activities. These activities cover online issues experienced by young people aged 3 to 18.
The 2023 theme, ’Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online,’ inspired my campaign around communication methods, using phones, tablets, and even unconventional items like a megaphone! The aim was to show how easily children can connect with the people they trust.
This project required creating an engaging visual identity suitable for ages 3 to 18, involving the development of a wide range of resources. These included worksheets, materials for group discussions and assemblies, supporting presentation slides, and a range of diverse illustrations. Resources were also specifically designed for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN). To ensure maximum accessibility, all resources were reproduced in Welsh.
I also created a mix of animated and still social media posts to help promote the day. This led to Over 200,000 downloads of Education Resources and the #SaferInternetDay hashtag trend online at no.1 throughout the day.
