2025 marked the 200th anniversary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway (S&DR), the world’s first public railway to use steam locomotives. To mark this occasion the friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway were looking to create engaging educational packs that take primary school children in the area on an exciting journey to explore their local history.
Drawing from rich historical materials, I aimed to enhance the resources through visual storytelling. I created illustrations to expand on the narrative, connecting existing assets and bridging gaps lost to time.
To add to the story I also created replica tickets and coins so the children could experience buying a ticket (a rather foreign concept today) This allowed the students to step back in time and fully immerse themselves in their history.
